When will I get my joining instructions?
As soon as payment has been received for the course we send joining instructions via email or first class post if preferred. If booking on-line, you will receive an email immediately confirming your payment, followed by the joining instructions within 60 minutes (during business hours) or the following working day (when the booking has taken place out of business hours)

What does the Physical Intervention module cover on the door supervisor course?
You will learn some disengagement skills to protect yourself if grabbed by an attacker. Additionally you will be taught techniques on how to escort a reluctant customer from the premises. All skills meet with SIA requirements for Physical Intervention.

How many people will be on the course?
This will vary from course to course, but generally 8-12 people.

How old do I have to be to do the SIA course/get an SIA licence?
There is no upper or lower age limit on taking the course.
To be able to apply for your SIA licence you must be at least 18 years old.

What are the course times?
Door Supervisor & CCTV
Courses held over three days = 09:00 – 19:00
Courses held over four days = 09:30 – 17:00
APLH & Physical Intervention
Course held over one day = 09:00 – 17:30

What happens if I am late for the start of the door supervisor course?
Please call the office if you are going to be late on the first day of the course so we can inform the tutor. If you are liable to be late after the first day, please inform the tutor on the course, but you should bear in mind that it is an SIA requirement that you complete the full 30 hours of tuition (including exams).

What if I only want to work as a Security Guard?
With an SIA Door Supervisor licence you can also work as a Security Guard and at Events (e.g. the summer music festivals). You don't have to work as a door supervisor.

Do you get jobs for people who do your course?
We don't directly employ people as we are a training provider. However, we work with many security suppliers throughout the UK who are always happy to receive applications for work from people who have trained through DSTO.

Do you provide lunch?
We do not provide lunch on any of our courses except the APLH, where a light lunch is included within the course price.

Is there parking at the venue?
Some of our training venues provide parking. To find out whether the venue has parking available, first select the course you are interested in using the Course Finder box above and then click on the Search button. Next click the "View Info" button and you will be able to see if parking is available.

Identification
What identification documents do I need for the SIA Door Supervisor or CCTV course?
To be eligible to take the door supervisor or CCTV course you must provide the required identification below: (These are the same identification requirements which will be needed when you apply for your SIA licence)
You MUST have EITHER two identity documents from Group A
NB - At least one document must show your current address and at least one document must show your date of birth.
OR
If you only have one identity document from Group A, you MUST have two documents from Group B
NB - At least one document must show your current address and at least one document must show your date of birth.
Accepted identification documents:
Group A
- Signed valid passport of any nationality
- Signed UK photo driving licence both parts required
- UK birth certificate or certified copy issued within 12 months of birth,but not a photocopy
Group B
- Valid EU photo ID card Valid UK firearms licence with photo
- Signed UK paper driving licence
- Marriage certificate or civil partnership certificate, with translation if not in English
- Certified copy (not photocopy) of a UK birth certificate issued more than 12 months after date of birth
- Non-UK birth certificate, with translation if not in English
- P45 statement of income for tax purposes on leaving a job issued in the last 12 months
- P60 annual statement of income for tax purposes issued in the last 12 months
- Bank or building society statement issued to current address,less than three months old. You can use more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different bank or building society
- Mortgage statement issued in the last 12 months
- Gas, electric, landline phone, water, satellite, cable bill issued to current address within last 3 months. (mobile phone contract INVALID FROM 31 AUGUST 2012) You can only use one utility bill in support of your application
- Pension, endowment or ISA statement issued in the last 12 months
- British work permit or visa issued in the last 12 months
- Letter from H.M. Revenue and Customs, Dept of Work and Pensions,employment service or local authority issued within the last 3 months.More than one letter can be used if issued by different government departments or different local authorities
- Credit card statement sent to current address in the last 3 months.More than one statement can be used if issued by different service providers
- Council Tax statement issued in the last 12 months Child benefit book issued in the last 12 months UK adoption certificate

I haven’t lived in the UK for long. Is this going to affect my SIA application?
When completing the SIA application form you need to provide your address history for the past 5 years (including overseas addresses). If you have spent six months or more overseas in the last five years, you must provide a criminality certificate from each country you lived in (with an approved translation if the certificate is not in English). Your licence application cannot be processed until a criminality certificate has been provided.

Can I use photocopies?
No. You must produce original copies of you identification at the point of the exams and when submitting your application to the SIA.

What identification documents do I need for the APLH Course?
Accepted identification documents:
Candidates should present one item from Group A
Group A
- Signed valid passport (any nationality)
- Signed full UK paper driving licence
- Signed full UK photo card driving licence (both parts are required)
- Valid EU photo identity card
- Valid UK firearms licence with photo
- Personal Licence Card with photo
- Security Licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA)
- ID/Warrant /Prison Service card issued by HM Forces, Police, Prison Service (must be current and valid)
- Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) Card (MUST have PASS hologram on card)
Where candidates are unable to provide identification from Group A then they must present three items from Group B
Group B
- A credit card, debit card or switch card produced by a bank, building society or credit card company which contains the candidate’s signature provided this is accompanied by a recent statement*
- An original or certified copy of a UK birth certificate
- Marriage Certificate (only if in current name)
- P45 or P60 **
- Mortgage statement**
- Financial statement e.g. pension **
- Utility bill from current address e.g. gas/ electric/ telephone –inc mobile phone contract (Multiple bills acceptable if from different services)*
- Certificate of British Nationality
- British work permit or visa **
- Addressed payslip *

What qualification will I get if I take the Door Supervisor course?
Level 2 Award in Door Supervision.

Level 2 Award in CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance).

Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders.

When do I get results?
For SIA courses your results will usually be available within 10 working days of completing the course. (Please check when booking)
For Personal Licence courses you should allow 3-4 working days from completion of your course. (Please check when booking)

How long do certificates take to be received?
We aim to get your certificates to you within three weeks of completing your course.

What is involved in the exams?
Door Supervisor
A multiple choice paper for each of the following modules:
- Working in the Private Security Industry (25 questions. Pass mark 18)
- Working as a Door Supervisor (40 questions. Pass mark 28)
- Conflict Management (25 questions. Pass mark 18)
The Physical Intervention module has a Practical Assessment
CCTV
A multiple choice paper for each of the following modules:
- Working in the Private Security Industry (25 questions. Pass mark 18)
- Working as a CCTV Operator (40 questions. Pass mark 28)
There is a Practical Assessment on operating CCTV equipment.
APLH
A single multiple choice paper:
- Legal and Social Responsibilities of a Personal Licence Holder (40 questions. Pass mark 28)

Can I get funding?
If you are unemployed you may be eligible to gain funding for your chosen course. Please contact us for more information.

Can I pay on the day?
Unfortunately not. All of our venues have an accommodation limit. For this reason we only accept booking and payment in advance. However you can secure your place on the course by paying a deposit of £50.00. Please call us on 0800 652 9965 for more information.

How do I pay for the course?
To book a place on the course all you need to do is pay for it. You can do that with one of the three following options:
Option 1
Book online and pay by debit/credit card.
Option 2
Call our office on (01202) 299982 or Free phone 0800 652 9965 and pay by credit/debit card.
Option 3
We can give you our bank details and you pay the cash directly into our account via your local bank. Please contact us for our bank details.
Once you have paid for the course, it confirms your place and we will send you out a map and set of joining instructions for that course.

SIA
What ID do I need to apply for the SIA Licence?
To be able to apply for your SIA licence you must submit the following identification together with your completed application form:
You MUST have EITHER two identity documents from Group A
NB - At least one document must show your current address and at least one document must show your date of birth.
OR
If you only have one identity document from Group A, you MUST have two documents from Group B
NB - At least one document must show your current address and at least one document must show your date of birth.

- Signed UK photo driving licence (both parts of the full or provisional licence are required)
- Original UK Birth Certificate or certified copy (issued within 12 months of birth, but not a photocopy)
- UK Adoption Certificate
Group B
- Certified copy of a UK birth certificate (issued more than 12 months after date of birth, but not a photocopy)
- Marriage Certificate (with translation if not English) or Civil Partnership certificate
- Valid UK firearms licence with photo
- P45 statement of income for tax purposes on leaving a job**
- P60 annual statement of income for tax purposes**
- Bank or Building Society statement issued to current address (You can use more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different service provider)*
- Mortgage statement **
- Council Tax statement **

How do I get an SIA application form?
Simply phone the SIA on 0844 892 1025 to request one, or go to the
SIA Website where you can either submit a request form or register for their e-Fill system. This allows you to complete the application on-line and then print it on your own printer. Alternatively the SIA will print it and send it to you by post.

What if I've got a criminal conviction?
Depending on the severity of the offence and time spent since the offence was committed will determine whether you are eligible to be granted an SIA licence. Visit the
Criminal Record Indicator on the SIA website if you are unsure.

How long does it take to get the licence?
Providing the application form has been submitted without mistakes and is fully complete (including the correct identification documents) the SIA undertake to process it within 25 working days .

How old do I have to be to get a licence?
You must be at least 18 years old, although you can obtain the necessary qualification before reaching this age.

What is the cost of the licence?
The cost of the SIA licence is currently £220.00 – however the SIA review this figure annually.
There is a reduction of 50% in this fee for additional licences.
